I arrived to London the last day of May and from the get go it has been full on!
Got to enjoy the sheer beauty of travelling without a kayak (I’m sure any kayaker will agree). No tactical check in person selection, no battling check in queues, no weaving custom lines with a 3m long pointed object that can occasionally take out an unlucky bystander. Pure bliss.
I was apprehensive about travelling through LA and purposefully gave myself a longer stop over to reduce any stress involved. And though it took 3.5 hours to clear customs, get my bags, drop them off again and then go back through security this was actually an improvement on my last LA transfer. It still baffles me that they can’t function like every other airport, I am certain not that many people are trying to live in America these days, but maybe I am wrong.
I spent a couple of days in the city recovering from jet lag before training commenced. All Kiwis and Aussies seem to be in either Clampham or Shoreditch. So appropriately I stayed in Shoreditch with Hannah Harty (a friend from Uni). Han is also affectionately known as Party Harty, so what better way to cure jet lag than a festy (All Points East)! Roped Liv Lee in and we both managed to score free tickets (hers, by some form of incredible luck, on the ride share en route to pre-drinks) so I really couldn’t not go! Highlights were dizzy rascal, Leon bridges, Mumford and sons! Whole new level of appreciation for Mumford and Livs camera (see flattering insta pics).
After a relaxed morning including breakfast naan and unlimited chai at the Dishroom, a spot of shopping in Shoreditch and a stop in Spitalfields markets it was time to head to north east London and get down to business!
